Spelunking the depths of Popular Culture

  • Benjamin Harrison McKee

Son of James Robert and Mary Harrison McKee and Grandson of President Benjamin Harrison. Benjamin Harrison McKee, “Baby McKee”, was born on March 15, 1887, in Indianapolis. He represented the National City Bank in Paris, France, for many years. He died on April 1, 1958, in Paris.

Photograph taken in the library of the President Benjamin Harrison Home, March 1938.

(This was one year after his step-mother and cousin, Mary Lord Demmick, sold the house to the Arthur B. Jordan Foundation.)

(Apparently, even in adult life, he never shook the nickname he enjoyed while living in the White House. I heard from a volunteer that he chose to live in Paris as an ex-pat. after WWI because even his soldiering during that conflict couldn’t get people, especially his fellow veterans, to stop calling him “Baby”.)
